The Padang was taken over Sunday by Burmese workers celebrating Thingyan – Burmese New Year.

As the sun set, hundreds of people sat on the ground, wet from water fights earlier in the day. They were laughing, cheering and singing.

But nobody’s New Year was happier than Mr. Thien’s.

Mr. Thien is from Myanmar and has worked in Singapore for 13 years doing renovation and construction.

This year he got a New Year treat: his wife and their two daughters came from Myanmar to visit him.

The day included a picnic on the green. Later, they sang songs and clapped hands as their youngest showed off her dance moves.

Happy New Year to everyone celebrating right now!
